Newcastle United starlet Lewis Miley recently made his bow for the England under-19 side.

Talented Newcastle United youngster Lewis Miley made his debut for England under-19s against Germany under-19s on Wednesday.

The game took place at the Oliva Nova Football Centre in Spain, and Miley was introduced from the bench as the Young Lions fell to a close-fought 1-0 defeat. However, they will get the chance to bounce back on Saturday when they take on Switzerland under-19s. Miley will be hoping to feature in the England starting XI for that match.

Although he was ultimately on the losing side, Miley will be delighted to have already reached this milestone stage in his international youth career. To be representing his country at under-19 level at just seventeen years of age is a tremendous achievement.

The teenager has previously made ten appearances for England under-17s, and has shown enough to suggest he is capable of playing at the next level up.

This progression will come as no surprise to Eddie Howe, who believes the academy ace has what it takes to become a first team star at St James’ Park.

Howe backs Miley for Newcastle success

As quoted by the Newcastle Twitter page, the Magpies boss has previously stated that “I’m in a difficult position because I can only promote players through the Academy that I feel are good enough to play in the Premier League and that’s such a difficult journey to go on.”

“Lewis has got an amazing chance to do that. At his age, he’s got all the attributes and now he needs a little bit of luck and to continue on the path he’s on with the great work he’s already done.”

The “extremely gifted” young attacking midfielder is certainly making excellent progress as both domestic and international level. Miley featured for Newcastle in pre-season and was able to impress greatly.

His form for the Newcastle under-21 outfit last season was rewarded when Howe handed Miley his Premier League debut. The player came on as a substitute against Chelsea in the final match of the season. In the process, he became the youngest player to ever represent the Tyneside outfit in the Premier League.

At the rate he is currently progressing, Miley seems destined to experience further top flight action at some point this season.
