Newcastle United are reportedly set to tie down a new deal for 19-year-old Joe White, according to MailOnline. The youngster is highly thought of and has featured in a couple of matchday squads under Eddie Howe.
However, plenty of clubs have been keeping an eye out on White, including Chelsea, Leeds United, Wolverhampton Wanderers, Celtic and Rangers. The current deal he is on will expire this summer.
Also, the same report states that it’s possible that White could go out on loan before the transfer window closes on Monday. Hartlepool want to take him on loan, according to the Daily Mail’s Craig Hope.
Eddie Howe is ‘impressed’ with what he’s seen from White
White has played for England at youth level and is one of the standout stars from Newcastle’s U23 team. Considering he’s only 19, it indicates that the lad definitely has plenty of potential.
As well as that, Eddie Howe has spoken on the midfielder before, last month he stated, “with Joe White, I’ve been very impressed. I saw him playing for the development squad recently, and he performed really well. He’s a talented player.” (MailOnline)
Furthermore, the Magpies haven’t had much success in terms of producing young prospects. The only players in recent years that have made an impact are Paul Dummett, Sean and Matty Longstaff.
Additionally, most of them end up getting snapped up early on or sold after they don’t reach their potential. However, under the new owners, this could be about to change.
Not just that, but actual investment into the youth academy as a whole. Newcastle always seems to have one of the if not worst youth academies in the Premier League.

Signing White to a new deal is definitely a step in the right direction. Also, it’s a sign that the youth set-up is getting much more needed investment and that they will look to hold on to their talented players.
In addition, the loan move to Hartlepool will give him good experience in the top flight. At the minute, the Pools are sitting in 16th in League Two, they’ve racked up a decent number of points, looking unlikely that they’ll get into a relegation battle.
