Alex Murphy to link up with Newcastle youngsters in Spain

New Newcastle United signing Alex Murphy is finally set to link up with his new teammates.

The teenager’s move to Tyneside was confirmed at the end of May, with Newcastle announcing that a deal was in place to sign the young Irishman.

The club’s official announcement stated that Murphy would join Newcastle’s youth ranks in July, and that is exactly what is happening.

Both the Under-21s and the Under-18s are going abroad, and there will be some new faces involved in the trip.

The club have confirmed that Murphy and Charlie McArthur will be involved in the trip, with the latter recently arriving from Kilmarnock.

As for Murphy, while his move to Newcastle was confirmed in May, he’s just enjoyed his final appearance for Galway United.

He made his farewell appearance on Friday night, helping Galway win 3-0 against Cobh Ramblers. The 18-year-old got an assist on the night, and was awarded their Player of the Month trophy for his final month with the Irish side.

It was a perfect goodbye for Murphy, who will no doubt be excited by his move to St James’ Park. He will have aspirations of becoming a Premier League player, and that will be the dream of Newcastle officials too. That’s why they’ve signed him this summer.

Also on the trip to Spain is Joe White and Jay Turner-Cooke, two players who have been on the fringes of the first-team over the past year. However, they have not been called up for the first-team’s trip to Austria.

Instead, they will have to settle for warm weather training under the watchful eye of Elliot Dickman. His side take on Elche on Saturday afternoon, which will be a very tough game.

They are currently a top tier side in Spain, so it will be a real test for the Toon youngsters. It’s another indication of the raising of standards at Newcastle at every level.

Hopefully new signing Murphy is involved, and he can quickly settle into life with his new club.
