Whilst the Newcastle owners continue to deliberate who the club’s new manager will be, Callum Wilson continues to highlight his predatory and prolific goalscoring prowess.

Our number nine made it two goals in two games following his return from injury, with a stunning overhead kick to rescue a point away at Crystal Palace.

That took the 29-year-old’s Premier League tally for the season to four goals in five games.

Keeping the England international fit is absolutely imperative to our chances of Premier League survival regardless of which manager comes in and takes the reigns.

But whoever the new manager is going to be, they will be coming into a team knowing that they have one of the league’s best marksman and a natural goalscorer which aren’t exactly easy to find.

With Wilson fit and available, Newcastle’s problems aren’t going to be scoring goals. It’s at the other end of the pitch where the new manager has their work cut out.

With 16 goals in 33 Newcastle appearances, our striker is averaging a goal every other game, which is a phenomenal record, considering the poor team he has been playing in.

Wilson has proven to be a sensational signing. He cost £20million from Bournemouth in 2020, and reportedly earns £46,000-a-week.

With Wilson no doubt having aspirations of getting into Gareth Southgate’s World Cup squad, he’ll be hoping the new manager can build a team that will enable him to improve on his current rate of scoring.

Besides Allan Saint-Maximin, the former Bournemouth man is usually living off scraps.

But if he the new manager can get a well-balanced team around him that is equally solid and adventurous, then Wilson will believe he can improve on his personal-best Premier League tally of 14 goals under Eddie Howe in 2018/19.

Putting the ball in the back of the net is arguably the most difficult thing to do in football and Newcastle have a player who can do it for fun.

And if he gets the right ammunition, Wilson could be the man leading the new owners’ charge into a new era of success.
