The new Newcastle United home kit has been ‘leaked’.
It was announced last week that the club’s new kit supplier will be Castore, who agreed a multi-year deal. According to the Athletic, they have signed a six-year deal to make Newcastle’s kits.
The home kit is set to be released on Saturday, and will no doubt be debuted the week after when Newcastle play their first pre-season friendly.
A sneak peak of the kit was released on Twitter, which certainly excited some supporters, who were impressed with the embroidery.
It was also reported last month that the new home kit will have a grandad collar – a throwback to one of Newcastle’s greatest ever kits.
And it looks like those reports are true.
Ahead of the shirt’s release, a leak has emerged online, and the kit does have a grandad collar.
Unsurprisingly, the kit is black and white – so that’s a good start. Castore have gone for three thick stripes, rather than multiple thinner ones.
The stripes are similar to the 2019/20 kit, but with black occupying the middle stripe. Thankfully though, the badges are not in the middle like that jersey.
The leaked shirt is pictured alongside another kit, which is purple. However, it is unclear whether or not it is an away shirt, or a goalkeeper shirt.
Based on appearance, it feels more likely to be the latter.
As expected, the reaction on Twitter has been…mixed. Sadly, the majority of people seem to be disappointed with Castore’s first Toon shirt.
But then again, that always seems to be the reaction when a new kit is released. And, as always, they often look better in the official pictures.
But for now, some Newcastle fans aren’t loving their new association with Castore. One issue for a lot of fans seems to be the use of thicker stripes.
