While Newcastle United are very happy with Eddie Howe, the managerial merry-go-round is already under way elsewhere.

In Europe, Bayer Leverkusen sacked Erik ten Hag. That is of interest to the Magpies, as they get set to face the Bundesliga giants in the Champions League in December.

Closer to home, there has also been a change in the Premier League. Nottingham Forest have sacked Nuno Espirito Santo, despite his heroics at the City Ground last season.

Nuno is gone, amid problems with Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis.

Change is coming at the City Ground, and Forest already have Nuno’s replacement lined up.

Ange Postecoglou braced for Premier League return

It appears that Forest are going to announce Nuno’s replacement within 24 hours of his departure.

According to the Telegraph, Ange Postecoglou is going to be appointed as the new Nottingham Forest manager ‘imminently’.

They report that the Australian boss has agreed a deal with Forest until the end of the 2026/27 season, with his first game as manager set to be against Arsenal on Saturday.

Interestingly, Postecoglou had also been linked with the Bayer Leverkusen job. However, Kasper Hjulmand is favourite to become Leverkusen manager.

Postecoglou is missing out on that job, but is getting a very exciting opportunity at Nottingham Forest.

It means he will be facing Newcastle United again, with Forest heading to St James’ Park on 5th October.

Ange Postecoglou’s record against Newcastle United

The only time Postecoglou has faced Newcastle United in his career was during his two years as Tottenham Hotspur boss.

Postecoglou’s side took on the Magpies four times in competitive action, winning just once.

Eddie Howe largely got the better of the 60-year-old, beating him on three occasions.

Their fifth meeting is not far away, and it will be interesting to see whether Postecoglou has implemented his style at Forest by the time they head to Tyneside.
