Newcastle United are heading to the United States of America this summer, with Miguel Almiron and Darren Eales set for a homecoming.
It has been confirmed that Newcastle will compete in the Premier League‘s pre-season tournament in America, with six top flight clubs set to take part. The other clubs involved in the newly named Summer Series are Aston Villa, Brentford, Brighton, Chelsea and Fulham.
Eddie Howe’s side will play three friendlies in America ahead of the 2023/24 Premier League campaign. It has been announced that the Magpies will face Aston Villa, Chelsea and Brighton. We will play three games in the space of five games, each in a different state.
It will be a good test ahead of next season, but the middle fixture on July 26th against Chelsea will be extra special for Almiron and Eales.
Newcastle duo Miguel Almiron and Darren Eales set for Atlanta return
In Newcastle’s second game of the trip, Howe’s side will face Chelsea at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium. That is the home of MLS side Atlanta United.

They are the team that Newcastle bought Almiron from for £21million in 2019 when Rafa Benitez was manager. And it is also the team that we poached Eales from, who became the Toon’s new CEO last year.
Almiron and Eales are remembered very fondly for their time at Atlanta United, but for very different reasons. Miggy was a star on the pitch, and helped them win the MLS Cup in 2018. As for Eales, he played a pivotal role in building the club after its formation in 2014.
They will be welcomed back to Atlanta as heroes, and it will no doubt be an incredibly exciting occasion for both men.
The confirmation of these three fixtures means that Newcastle now have four friendlies planned for the summer. We are also set to face Rangers at Ibrox for Allan McGregor’s testimonial on July 18th.
