Miguel Almiron is loving life back at Atlanta United after leaving Newcastle United.

The Paraguayan waved goodbye to St James’ Park during the January transfer window, returning to Atlanta United for £11million.

It was a deal that suited all parties, none of which have looked back. The deal puts Newcastle in a stronger PSR position, while they have not struggled since his exit. After all, they ended their trophy drought.

As for Miguel Almiron and Atlanta United, their reunion hit new heights on Saturday.

Miguel Almiron scores after Newcastle United exit

Almiron has scored his first goal back for Atlanta United since re-joining the club. It came in a 4-3 thriller against New York City, with Atlanta United coming from 3-1 down to pick up all three points.

The former Newcastle attacker played a key role in the victory, dragging his side level with a header in the 75th minute. It was the 57th goal of his career, and his first at club level since December 2023.

Interestingly, this was the first headed goal of Almiron’s competitive club career.

At 31-years-old, Miggy has finally scored with his head!

Will Miguel Almiron get a Carabao Cup medal?

Having left Newcastle United during the January transfer window, Almiron missed the Carabao Cup final at Wembley.

He was not part of the team that beat Liverpool to end the Magpies’ trophy drought, nor was he part of the open-top bus parade or the celebration on the Town Moor.

However, Almiron did play a part in the Carabao Cup journey. He made four appearances in the competition as Newcastle went the distance, including starts against Nottingham Forest and Wimbledon.

It was actually Almiron who won the decisive penalty against Wimbledon, as Fabian Schar’s spot-kick allowed Newcastle to advance 1-0.

While he was not part of the final, he played his part in getting to the final. Almiron is eligible to receive a medal, and will hopefully be awarded one.

The same goes for Lloyd Kelly, who was sent out on loan to Juventus during the most recent transfer window.
