Newcastle United have started 2021/22 with a defeat, losing 4-2 to West Ham United at St. James’ Park.
The Magpies could not do what they did on the opening day last term, with David Moyes’ side exacting their revenge this time around.

The loss came about without new signing Joe Willock.
The midfielder finally joined the club on Friday from Arsenal for a reported £25 million (Sky Sports), after weeks of speculation.
Unfortunately, the club couldn’t get the deal done in time for him to play against the Hammers.
Willock could therefore only watch on helplessly from the stands, after coming on the pitch before the fans prior to the match.

Wilock returning is great news for the club, and Micah Richards said on Sky Sports before kick-off: “It could prove to be a lot of money, but for his record last season…
“Do you know what it will do? It will give the dressing room a lift. They know his quality. They know what he can do.
“He already knows the players and the staff so he’ll fit right in, perfect for them.”
Willock signing will lift Toon stars
As Richards says, the signing of Willock will be a boost for the Newcastle players.

Allan Saint-Maximin has already expressed his happiness about the transfer.
He arrives for a big fee and the pressure will be on, but he’s a brilliant player and he’s already shown how much he improves the midfield.
