Mehrdad Ghodoussi delivers message to Sven Botman after posing with F1 world champ

Sven Botman is Newcastle United’s flying Dutchman, and he is now attracting attention from another one of the Netherlands’ sporting superstars.

Newcastle co-owner Mehrdad Ghodoussi has been active on social media on Wednesday, uploading a picture to his official Instagram account. He has managed to grab a selfie with two-time Formula One world champion Max Verstappen.

The F1 is in the United Kingdom this weekend, with the 10th race of the season set to take place at Silverstone on Sunday. Verstappen will look to extend his lead at the top, having already won six out of the nine races so far.

He is on track to retain his title for a third year in a row, and has taken time out of his day to pose for a photo with Ghodoussi, who is a Formula One fan. He has already been seen at the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix this year.

Alongside the picture, Ghodoussi wrote: “He gave me some good tips.”

The image prompted a reply from Toon defender Sven Botman, who quickly got a response of his own from Ghodoussi.

Botman’s reply was simple. It was merely an emoji of the Netherlands flag. That is because Verstappen identifies as being Dutch. While he was born in Belgium to a Belgian mother, his father is Dutch. The 25-year-old competes with a Dutch racing licence, claiming that he has always felt more Dutch than Belgian.

In response to Botman, Ghodoussi wrote: “He’s a big fan of yours by the way.”

If that is the case then Verstappen is clearly a man of taste. Then again, is it really a surprise that the F1 champion is a big fan of a Rolls Royce?

That is what Botman has been in a Toon shirt. He enjoyed a sensational first year on Tyneside, having arrived from Lille for £35million 12 months ago.

His performances helped guide Newcastle into the Champions League, and preparations will soon begin ahead of next season. Eddie Howe’s players are due back for pre-season in the coming days.

As for Ghodoussi, it looks like he is leaving the summer transfer business to other Toon officials whilst he attends the world’s biggest sporting events.
