There is more good news coming out of Newcastle United today, with the women’s team thrashing Leeds United 6-2.

The men’s team, of course, ran out, 2-1 winners yesterday against Brighton, meaning they’re on an eight-game unbeaten run.

Goals came from Ryan Fraser and Fabian Schar at St. James’ Park.

Today, the women put in a fantastic performance at Coach Lane, with the result putting them top of the Women’s National League.

Katie Barker got the ball rolling for the hosts after just five minutes and Kacie Elson stabbed home the second shortly after. Elson then grabbed a second for the Lasses, before completing her hat-trick on 36 minutes.

Her third was an especially nice finish, with her lifting the ball over Leeds’ goalkeeper with a first-time finish.

Olivia Smart got one back for Leeds, just before half-time.

It was a frantic end to the game as Leeds scored again through Sarah Danby on 85 minutes.

There was to be no comeback though, with Georgina Spraggon grabbing a brace before Becky Ferguson added a sixth right at the death.

A fantastic result, that was taken in by Mehrdad Ghodoussi and Amanda Staveley.

Ghoddousi wrote on Twitter: “What a result…top of the league. lovely to see you all.”

The Newcastle United Women’s account replied: “It was great to see you both, we massively appreciate your support!”

Great to see Newcastle’s owners supporting all aspects of the club

It is really, really good to see the new owners showing their support for the women’s team.

It further emphasises their wholehearted commitment to the club.

It is something you never would have seen from the previous owner.

Hopefully, this will be a regular thing and there will also be lots of invest in the women’s team.
