Kieran Trippier is playing the best football of his career, but he is also making his Newcastle United teammates better as well.

While Trippier has got seven assists to his name already this season, his influence has allowed some of his teammates to hit even greater heights.

Sean Longstaff sums that up perfectly, and has admitted that he would not be the player he is today without Trippier.

The 33-year-old and the local lad combine so well down the right, with Trippier providing the assist for Longstaff’s goal against PSG in the Champions League.

Longstaff already has three goals for Newcastle this season, equalling his best ever tally in a black and white shirt.

He will likely go on to score even more this campaign, and the midfielder has admitted that Trippier is a big reason why he is able to get in the box more.

Sean Longstaff credits Kieran Trippier for making him better

Ahead of Newcastle’s Champions League game against Borussia Dortmund, Longstaff spoke to the media. He was asked to discuss how Trippier has helped him become a better player.

“A lot of it is probably more simple than you think,” he said.

“Something as little as him saying ‘get in the box more, you’re good enough to score goals’. Coming from him, he probably doesn’t realise it, but it’s a massive thing for me.

“You look at what he’s achieved in his career. For him to say those things that he believes I’m good enough to play at top levels and have impacts on games is massive for my confidence.

“We speak a lot during the games. He coaches you through the games, he’s a bit like the manager on the pitch.

“He’s a top player and a top person. I don’t think I probably would have developed as quickly without him right next to me. He makes the game really easy and is a pleasure to be around every day.”

Trippier’s influence at Newcastle United is massive

Longstaff’s comments sum up just how influential Trippier is at Newcastle United. It is not just about his own performances, which are spectacular.

But he has raised standards around him, and it is no surprise that the players closest to him have gotten so much better since his arrival.

Longstaff credits Trippier for helping him improve, and the same must go for Miguel Almiron. The Paraguayan has been transformed and has incredible chemistry with Trippier.

For Longstaff, he looks more confident than he ever has in a Toon shirt. It is why he is being talked up for an England debut.

But he will just focus on his Newcastle career, as he continues to sit under the Kieran Trippier learning tree and take his game to unimaginable heights.
