Everything was lined up for Martin Dubravkva to leave Newcastle United following the Carabao Cup victory over Arsenal.

Reports suggested Martin Dubravka was set to leave imminently with Newcastle United agreeing a deal with Saudi Pro League side Al-Shabab.

Following Newcastle’s 2-0 win in North London, Dubravka waved goodbye to fans in what appeared to be an emotional farewell gesture.

Eddie Howe always wanted to keep Dubravka, especially as he was filling in for the injured Nick Pope. It seems Howe’s wish was granted after the Arsenal win.

It quickly emerged that Dubravka’s exit was not finalised and that Newcastle chiefs made a complete U-turn on selling him to Saudi.

Newcastle United offer Martin Dubravka a new contract

Dubravka’s current deal is set to expire this summer which explains why Newcastle wanted to cash in on the 35-year-old before he was able to leave for free.

Newcastle would have earned £6m from Dubravka but clearly those inside St James’ Park believe he has more value staying in the current squad.

That is because Dubravkva has been offered a new contract in a fresh attempt to keep him on Tyneside. It’s understood he wants assurances he can fight Pope for the number one spot when he does return from injury.

As it stands, Dubravka does not want to sign a new deal but the club are still attempting to persuade him to stay.

Martin Dubravka breaks silence with four-word message

Newcastle start their FA Cup campaign against Bromley today, and fans are eagerly waiting to see if Martin Dubravka starts between the sticks or is even in the squad.

Howe refused to answer about Dubravka in his pre-match press conference but Dubravka’s latest social media post suggests he is very much up for selection.

Via Instagram, Dubravka posted photos of him in training with the caption: “Back to the work”.

While a move to Saudi is still possible, it seems Dubravka is still in Newcastle’s plans for the remainder of 2024/25 – and potentially beyond.
