BBC pundit Mark Lawrenson predicts that Newcastle will still be without a win this season come Saturday evening.

The Magpies head to Vicarage Road to face Watford, who have enjoyed a decent start to the season on their return to the Premier League.

The Hornets are currently 11th in the league with six points from their opening five games. Meanwhile, Newcastle are in the relegation zone with just two draws to their name.

Steve Bruce desperately needs a win to lift some of the pressure and move his side away from the drop zone.

However, Lawrenson doesn’t think that will happen.

Mark Lawrenson predicts a draw

In his latest Premier League predicts, the former Liverpool defender has the Magpies down for a 1-1 draw on Saturday.

“Watford’s results have been pretty up and down so far but they have six points from their first five games which they will be satisfied with,” Lawrenson said.

“Newcastle, meanwhile, are one of five top-flight teams without a win and their performances have not been great either. I haven’t seen anything that suggests they are about to start climbing the table.”

It’s hard to argue with the 64-year-old. The performances certainly haven’t been great.

There was some improvement against Leeds last time out, but it was a game that could have gone either way. It was a chaotic 90 minutes where a draw was probably a fair result.

That’s been the only game where Newcastle can be happy with their performance.

They crumbled after a bright start against West Ham, then they were flat against Aston Villa.

They were lucky to get a draw against Southampton, then they fell apart in the second half against Manchester United.

While Lawrenson may predict a draw for the Magpies on Saturday, that won’t appease Toon fans.
