Newcastle United take on Sheffield United at Bramall Lane tomorrow night, and it is surely a golden chance for the Magpies to get a much needed three points.
Steve Bruce’s side have been struggling, but the Blades have endured a torrid campaign to date.
They are firmly rooted to the bottom of the Premier League table having not won a game yet, and have just two points from 17 games.
Chris Wilder has done brilliant things for the football club, but they are in a very tough moment right now and, despite a confidence-boosting FA Cup win over Bristol Rovers, Newcastle should be feeling good about winning the game.
That said, the Magpies are winless in their last five in the league, and BBC pundit Mark Lawrenson actually reckons United will break their duck against the Toon Army.
Predicting a 2-1 final score, he said (BBC Sport): “I know Newcastle don’t do all-out attack whoever they play but surely they won’t just sit back at Bramall Lane? I wouldn’t understand that, because this is obviously a very winnable game for them too.
“I don’t think there will be much in it, but I am going with the Blades here. They are bound to break their duck in the league at some stage, and at least they will have a bit of confidence after the weekend.”
A huge chance
Lawrenson may be predicting a Sheffield United victory, as will some Newcastle fans even.
But Wilder’s side have been in complete disarray this season and this is a major opportunity for Bruce to get things back on track.
Defeat at Bramall Lane to the Premier League’s bottom club would really set alarm bells ringing.
