Newcastle United continued their fantastic run of form on Saturday, beating Brighton 2-1 at St. James’ Park.
It was not a particularly great display from the Magpies.

But the only thing that matters now is getting points on the board.
It is now eight games without defeat for Newcastle, and Eddie Howe is getting a tune out of pretty much everybody.
Yesterday’s performance was nothing to shout home about, but Newcastle dug in and got the job done.
But one man who can lay claim to a good performance once again was Matt Targett.
The January loan signing from Aston Villa made his fourth appearance in black and white, and it was another really strong display from the 26-year-old.
Howe was certainly pleased with what he saw, saying of him: “I’m very pleased – he’s very consistent. Every game he has performed well defensively for the team. He knows the position inside and out. Top performances from our back line.”
Targett has very quickly endeared himself to the Toon faithful.

The left-back position was crying out for someone just to come in and provide a bit of consistency and that’s exactly what he has brought.
Targett took to Instagram to give his reaction to the win, writing: “Wasn’t pretty, but very important 3 points. Amazing team spirit and fight! Toon Toon black and white army.”
His post garnered many comments, with Isaac Hayden summing it up quite well.
The injured midfielder wrote ‘Top draw (sic) again’.
Newcastle have struck gold with loan signing of Matt Targett
Newcastle are surely already thinking about turning Targett’s loan permanent.
He’s only featured four times, but he plays like someone who has been at St. James’ Park for years.

It is really refreshing to have someone in that position who is good both offensively and defensively.
Arguably, the left-back position is probably now as strong as it has been since loan star Jetro Willems had the shirt before his unfortunate injury.
