Manchester United enter race to sign £26m Newcastle target

Manchester United are now in talks with Newcastle United target and Genoa defender Radu Dragusin who looks destined for a big move.

Newcastle have been targeting a new young defender to play alongside Sven Botman and Dragusin’s name has been mentioned a few times now as a potential replacement for Fabian Schar.

ProSport are now reporting that Manchester United have entered the conversation for the Romanian and have already held talks with his agent.

Dragusin keen on move away

After a season and a half at Genoa, Dragusin now looks set to make his next big move with the likes of Newcastle, Man United, Barcelona and Arsenal all monitoring his situation.

Dragusin has impressed for both club and country and very recently helped his nation finish top of Group I in the Euro 2024 qualifiers, ensuring their place at next summer’s tournament.

It’s understood that Genoa are asking for £26m for the centre-back which should not be an issue for any club, hence why there is so much interest in the 21-year-old.

As ProSport reports, Dragusin is looking to move away as early as this winter before the European tournament and talks between his representatives and Man United are believed to already be ‘very advanced’ which would be bad news for Newcastle.

Newcastle prepare to battle Man United

Both Newcastle and Man United are looking to upgrade their defence. Newcastle want to find a replacement for Fabian Schar who will turn 32 next month while Man United look set to part ways with Raphael Varane and have very recently been forced to play Jonny Evans at the back.

It’s not yet clear where Dragusin’s preferred destination would be, but there are a number of Premier League clubs who would happily pay the £26m fee for a talented defender with bags of potential.

Newcastle have previously sent scouts to watch over Dragusin and will be keeping a close eye on how this situation develops, but Man United will be tough competition to beat if they make serious moves to attract the 21-year-old in January.
