Out of nowhere, there might be a takeover happening at Newcastle United.

Reports surfaced on Sunday night from the Sun that a deal to buy Newcastle was completed, much to the shock of Toon fans.

Monday led to more speculation, including a statement from Sheikh Khaled’s representatives that said terms had been agreed.

That was followed by a few negative reports, with claims that the club were yet to see proof of funds from the prospective new owner. As always, fans feared things were going the same way they had in the past with Amanda Staveley and Peter Kenyon.

But let’s try and be positive. Should Newcastle be taken over, then we could be set for a bright future. That’s exactly what happened to Manchester City in 2008.

The blue side of Manchester were far from a powerhouse in football back then, but now they’re arguably the best team in the world. Sheikh Mansour’s takeover took the club to the top, with Pep Guardiola just completing a domestic treble at the Etihad.

While there is no reason to believe that Newcastle will get the same financial backing and surge up the Premier League table, a lot of fans are certainly dreaming.

And Manchester City fans have also commented on the reports, sending messages to the Toon Army about what they can expect.
