Everything is rosy at Manchester City right now, but they might be a coach lighter soon.

According to the Sun, Pep Guardiola’s assistant Mikel Arteta is in the frame for the Newcastle United job. Arteta has been at the Etihad since he retired in 2016, working under one of the best managers in the world.

While he’s currently just an assistant, his future will see him become the main man. Departing City captain Vincent Kompany even thinks that Arteta could replace Guardiola one day. High praise indeed.

But could he replace Rafa Benitez? It was announced on Monday that the Champions League winner would be leaving St James’ Park when his contract expires, much to the anger of everyone associated with the club.

Someone will have the impossible job of replacing Benitez, and they better be up to the task because they’ll be walking into a club that is at odds with its fans. If a manager like David Moyes comes in, fans will be even angrier than they already are.

But an appointment like Arteta wouldn’t be met with such disdain from supporters.

But what to Manchester City fans make of the speculation? It’s fair to say that they aren’t too worried.
