Malcolm Macdonald believes Newcastle United winger Allan Saint-Maximin is currently flattering to deceive.
The French star has scored three goals so far this season, but only one of those has come in the last 10 games.

Saint-Maximin is undeniably one of the Magpies’ best players.
Since his arrival in the summer of 2019, he has been a regular source of inspiration within the team.
His playstyle gets people off their seats, and his personality has made him a firm favourite at St. James’ Park.
In the eyes of ex-striker Macdonald though, who played for Newcastle from 1971-1976, the 24-year-old is struggling slightly at present.
Writing in his column for the Chronicle, he said: “Allan Saint-Maximin, as talented as he is, has flattered to deceive of late. He has run across the pitch from left wing to right when he ought to be penetrating into the penalty box. He is making life easy for defenders and confusing teammates.

“My motto as a striker was never to be afraid to miss. A lot of players are terrified in case it leaves them open to ridicule.”
Newcastle are back in Premier League action today against Leicester City.
The Magpies go to the King Power Stadium looking to build on their 1-0 win over Burnley last weekend.
The Foxes are missing a number of players to Covid-19/illness, and were also in Europa League action on Thursday against Napoli.
Newcastle need Allan Saint-Maximin to rediscover best form
A number of players have shown signs of improvement since Eddie Howe came in as manager.
The likes of Jonjo Shelvey and Joelinton look set to have an impact for Newcastle going forward. But the Magpies could really do with Saint-Maximin rediscovering his mojo.
It hasn’t quite been clicking for Saint-Maximin of late.

Howe hasn’t been in place long so it could be he is still adapting to the new style.
Hopefully it isn’t long before he starts turning it on. Some tough games lie in wait, so that would be ideal.
