Liverpool to deal Newcastle United a big blow as Arne Slot monitors duo wanted by Eddie Howe

Sporting director Paul Mitchell has his orders for Newcastle United’s transfer window.

The summer transfer window was a disaster for Newcastle – PSR a big part of that. Toon boss Eddie Howe reluctantly agreed to sell Elliot Anderson and Yankuba Minteh for a profit with the pair now performing well at Nottingham Forest and Brighton respectively.

It was a big hit to Newcastle‘s plans for the season with the assumption that Minteh would come into the squad to become the quality right winger the club needed.

Newcastle’s pursuit of Marc Guehi was also well-documented and ultimately embarrassing for the club after having several bids knocked back for the 24-year-old.

Howe wants a striker, winger and goalkeeper in January – while targets have been identified there is yet to be any movement to bring players in.

After reports of interest, Newcastle are no longer alone as Liverpool and boss Arne Slot are keeping tabs according to a recent transfer update.

Liverpool monitoring Newcastle targets Bryan Mbeumo and Antoine Semenyo

It’s no surprise this duo have interest from Premier League clubs following their bright starts to the season.

Newcastle want Mbeumo who could cost around £50m, the only downside is Brentford are very reluctant to see him leave through the season as they don’t want to derail the progress they’ve made so far.

Semenyo is also a Newcastle target but reports suggest Bournemouth would only let the 24-year-old go for £60m in January, a fee the Magpies may not be able to afford.

Now, according to Sky Sports, league leaders Liverpool are monitoring both Mbeumo and Semenyo’s situations. Starman Mohamed Salah’s contract is up at the end of the season and Red’s boss Arne Slot is still unsure whether the Egyptian will sign a new deal.

The thought is that whoever signs would be Salah’s replacement, very big shoes to fill.

Newcastle targets Mbeumo and Semenyo in comparison

No matter who they sign out of the pair, they’ll be getting a top-quality player with both enjoying great seasons for their respective clubs. Newcastle could soon be without Miguel Almiron who has interest from several clubs including MLS side Charlotte FC.

Mbeumo has scored more goals than Semenyo this season with the 25-year-old also scoring and bagging an assist in Brentford’s 4-2 win against Newcastle in December.

Semenyo however manages more shots per game and just edges it in the pass completion percentage.

The pair are a marked improvement on Almiron and Murphy despite the latter hitting good form during the winter period.
