Newcastle United fans finally have something to celebrate despite the club’s slow progress in the transfer market.
The Magpies are yet to make any major signings, while an offer for Anthony Elanga was rejected by Nottingham Forest.
Newcastle could make a new bid for Elanga, but it is difficult to envision him arriving at St James’ Park.
While Toon fans are eager for some positive news in terms of new signings, Eddie Howe’s squad is at least going to be a little bit stronger when pre-season begins.

Newcastle United fans rejoice as Lewis Hall steps up his recovery
That is because Lewis Hall is back running after undergoing foot surgery earlier in the year. The 20-year-old has not played for Newcastle United since February, but is stepping up his recovery ahead of pre-season starting on 7th July.
Toon fans have been reacting to the club’s official update on X (formerly known as Twitter), and they are absolutely buzzing to see Lewis Hall back on the grass.
“Great news! Need Lewis back fit and firing,” wrote one fan.”
“Honestly him and Botman with a full pre-season are going to be like new signings, as cringe as that is,” added a second Toon supporter.
This Newcastle United fan added: “What a sight. Tino was class at left-back, Tripps at right-back but Hall was my player of the first half…. and only injuries stopped him beating Burn for me. Plus England need him.”
“England’s LB at the World Cup!” quipped another member of the Toon Army.
A fifth Newcastle supporter wrote: “That’s fantastic news. He has been missed. The best left-back in the country and a total sham he wasn’t involved in young player of the year.”
Finally, this Toon fan remarked: “Like a new signing… some might say.”
- Who is Lewis Hall? Newcastle United’s star left-back who is destined for England greatness
Why the 2025/26 season is particularly important for Lewis Hall
The 2024/25 season was going brilliantly for Hall until he was struck down by injury. He was playing so well for Newcastle United, showing incredible signs of improvement.
Hall has established himself as one of the Premier League’s best left-backs, and he will be eager to reinforce that fact when he is fit enough to play again.
But while the 2024/25 campaign went well, the upcoming season is arguably even more important for Hall. That is because the 2026 World Cup is set to take place next summer, with players pushing to be involved in the world’s biggest competition.
That includes Hall, who made his England debut in November 2024. He won two caps for his country, and he will be desperate to add to that tally very soon. Left-back is a problem position for Thomas Tuchel, so Hall will be extremely keen to prove that he is the solution.
He will want to play well for Newcastle United, while he will also have an eye on England’s World Cup squad.
