Newcastle United hot prospect Lewis Miley started for England U17s yesterday as they saw off Denmark 3-1 in their first UEFA U17s Euro qualifiers game.
Lewis Miley is having a dream season at Newcastle as the 16-year-old has caught the eye of Eddie Howe already. The young attacking midfielder appeared for Howe’s first team in the 5-0 friendly win over Al-Hilal in Riyadh. He then followed it up with an appearance in the 2-1 friendly win over Rayo Vallecano at St James’ Park back in December.
Lewis Miley has already had a taste of first-team action
Miley told NUFC.co.uk after his St James’ Park debut: “I couldn’t believe it, really. As a supporter of the club, I’ve watched the first-team play at St. James’ Park nearly all my life so to be out there myself in front of so many fans was a great feeling. All of my family were watching, too, so that was even better.”
The Stanley-born teenager is tipped for great things at Newcastle with former academy graduate Sean Longstaff fearing for his job after Miley’s rise. “I was never that good at 16! Not just him, the other young lads, but especially Lew (Miley) obviously being in my position,” said Longstaff after the Rayo Vallecano game.
“Hopefully for him he can kick on, train with us, and try and play as much as he can, because it will only get him better, and hopefully he can go to the top.”
Miley played the full game for England against Denmark
Last night as England defeated Denmark, Miley played the whole game for Ryan Garry’s side, picking up a booking in the process. The U17 boys have Northern Ireland and Netherlands in their group but sit top of their group table following their win.
Miley is becoming a regular for the U17s having made eight appearances already, scoring once in the process.
The future is definitely bright for Lewis Miley.
