Lewis Hall’s brother reacts to his Newcastle move

The transfer of Lewis Hall to Newcastle United from Chelsea has now been confirmed.

Newcastle United have confirmed the arrival of Lewis Hall. Hall arrives at St James’ Park from Chelsea on an initial loan deal, but the Magpies have an obligation to make the move a permanent one next summer should certain performance-related criteria be met.

As reported by BBC Sport, Newcastle will end up paying up to £35 million to keep Hall on Tyneside for the long term.

Hall himself has discussed his switch to Newcastle, saying, “I’m very proud. Me and my family are Newcastle fans, and for me and my brother growing up, it was drilled into us that we were Newcastle. It’s a big club and I can’t wait to get started.”

Hall and his brother, Connor, grew up as Newcastle supporters as their father is from the north east of England. Connor is also a professional footballer, who recently joined National League outfit Solihull Moors.

Connor is understandably delighted to have seen Lewis make the move to Newcastle. He took to Twitter to post a message of support that said, “Ah man what a boy. Couldn’t be prouder”.

Hall set to shine at Newcastle

Eddie Howe will have big plans for Hall this season. Newcastle face a hectic campaign, with Champions League football to come. There are lots of games on the horizon, and Newcastle’s strength in depth will be tested, as the Magpies will also be seeking another top four finish in the Premier League and targeting silverware in the domestic cups.

Hall will offer a more attacking option for Newcastle at left-back. The 18-year-old showed in his limited opportunities at Stamford Bridge that he is unafraid to drive forward with the ball and try to make something happen in the final third.

The teenage full-back will expect greater involvement at Newcastle, and he has the potential to become a star at St James’ Park. He will bring a whole new dimension to Newcastle’s rearguard and build-up play, though his defensive capabilities will be tested and he will need to grow into his role alongside the likes of Sven Botman and Fabian Schar.
