Lewis Hall’s timely return to action for Newcastle United has got fans on social media awfully excited.
Hall, who was brilliant last season, has struggled to match those heights this time around.
Injuries have limited the England international to only two starts this season but he returned to action for Newcastle United on Wednesday night.
Indeed, Hall played well for Newcastle United against Athletic Bilbao as Eddie Howe’s side took another step closer towards reaching the knockout rounds.
The former Chelsea defender replaced Dan Burn in the second half at St James’ Park and even a relatively brief cameo had fans on social media platform X excited.

Newcastle United fans say they’re delighted to have Lewis Hall back from injury
With Tino Livramento also injured, Burn hasn’t had much help at left-back in recent weeks.
Though the Newcastle veteran has hardly been embarrassed, some of his understandable struggles in that position have attracted criticism online.
With that in mind, the fact Hall returned and played well had Toon fans feeling optimistic.
“It makes me so happy to see Lewis Hall,” wrote another fan.
One supporter added: “So good to see Lewis Hall back, hope he gets a chance to get a run of games.”
“Lewis Hall was a breath of fresh air there tonight, lovely to see him back”, added one happy supporter.
Why Dan Burn will have mixed feelings about Lewis Hall’s return
Burn would rather play as a central defender for Newcastle, although is happy to continue performing whatever role is asked of him.
Now Hall has returned, however, Burn may struggle for a place in the team. Sven Botman and Malick Thiaw continue to shine as central defenders, while having a natural left-back in the team puts Burn under pressure.
Still, for Howe, it’s a nice problem to have. Hall will have tougher games and progress in a young player is not always linear but his performance against the Basque outfit was certainly promising.
One of the heroes of last season, there will almost certainly be a clamour for him to start against Brentford on Sunday. Hopefully, he can remain free of injury from here.
