Newcastle United have recently been linked with an interest in Chelsea defender Trevoh Chalobah but it seems he could be on his way to Bayern Munich instead.
The defeat to Liverpool at the weekend showed that Newcastle could definitely still do with another centre-back for cover and Chelsea’s Trevoh Chalobah is one that has been watched by the club.
Earlier this month it was said that Chelsea were demanding £28.5million for their academy graduate with Newcastle and West Ham sniffing around.
Bayern have made a formal approach for Chalobah
Fabrizio Romano has now suggested that Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich could now be leading the race saying that Chelsea rejected a loan move and now the German side have made a formal approach.
In a post on X, Romano said: “Understand Bayern have now formally approached Chelsea to start talks for Trevoh Chalobah deal #CFC. Told Chelsea rejected loan proposal as they insist on permanent transfer. Talks continue in order to make final decision soon.”

After Fabian Schar‘s early injury scare and now Sven Botman hobbling off the pitch on Sunday, it’s evident that Newcastle will need to dip back into the transfer market this week to secure another centre-back or risk being left without suitable cover.
Newcastle will have to act fast to bring in Chalobah
Whether Trevoh Chalobah remains Newcastle’s the list is unclear but if the interest remains then they will have to act fast to beat both Bayern and the transfer deadline.

I love Dan Burn but he was absolutely done for pace on Sunday when filling in for Sven Botman at centre-back. It exposed exactly what Newcastle are lacking in our back line.
Hopefully there’s been some money freed up with the Adidas and Sportsbet.io deals as well as loan moves for Isaac Hayden and Ryan Fraser because that lack of depth could cost us this season.
