Kyle Walker has predicted the top five of the Premier League table as Newcastle United aim for Champions League qualification.

The race for European qualification is the tightest it has been in years, and the Magpies are right up there in it.

Newcastle United are currently sitting fourth in the Premier League table and can move further away from sixth place with a win against Chelsea on Sunday and if other results go their way.

The Champions League is the aim for Newcastle; the Carabao Cup win has already ensured a return of the famous European nights. The players are well aware that the UEFA Conference League is not what they should be aiming for.

4 NewcastleNewcastle35 19 6 10 66 45 21 63
5 ChelseaChelsea35 18 9 8 62 41 21 63

With three games left in the Premier League season, it is still all to play for. Just three points separate fourth and seventh place, so by no means is Newcastle’s final standing in the table certain.

As Eddie Howe prepares for arguably Newcastle’s biggest game of the season, former Manchester City star Kyle Walker has shared where he believes the Magpies will finish this season.

Kyle Walker backs Newcastle United in Champions League race

After Chelsea, Newcastle have a trip to the Emirates Stadium to play Arsenal before ending their season against Everton at St James’ Park.

Fans will hope that their qualification is all wrapped up before the last day, especially with Chelsea playing fellow Champions League contenders Nottingham Forest.

Alan Shearer is confident Newcastle will make the Champions League, and Walker completely agrees with him.

Speaking on the Kyle Walker podcast, the AC Milan defender was asked to predict the top five.

“After the weekend we’ll come back to this, but if I was to say now I’d probably go Newcastle (and) Villa.

“I just know personally for Aston Villa, the six-month loan period that I played there, I’d like them to get into the Champions League, I think. It’s a massive, massive club. The fanbase is incredible.

“The players, the recruitment, Unai Emery and what he’s done for that team and how he’s changed that around is nothing short of incredible and for certain people that I know connected to the club would be incredible.

“So I’m gonna go for Liverpool, Man City, Arsenal, Newcastle, Villa.”

Newcastle United players’ emotions in the Champions League race

The 2024/25 season has been full of tremendous highs and some worrying lows. It is hard to believe that there were discussions over Howe’s future at one point in the campaign, given what the club have gone on to achieve.

Fans are hoping that a return to Europe’s top competition will happen in the hope that they can play the likes of PSG and AC Milan once again.

Internally, Newcastle players are confident of beating Chelsea. One Newcastle star even said that they will be ‘there’ in the top five with a win against the Blues.

Enzo Maresca’s side looked unstoppable against Liverpool last week, so by no means will the game be an easy one for Howe’s side.

Shearer warned Newcastle about Cole Palmer after his sensational performance against the Champions, Howe will be well aware of the dangers he poses.
