Emil Krafth has spoken about his ambitions for Euro 2020 with Sweden in an interview with the club’s official website.
He also called on Newcastle fans to come and support the team at the game with Ukraine at Hampden Park tomorrow night.
Sweden’s round of 16 game kicks off at 8pm, not long after England’s match with Germany will finish.
Sweden and England could be on a collision course in the quarter-finals. They of course met at that stage of World Cup 2018, with England winning 2-0.
“We know it’s going to be hard game; any team after the group stage is hard game, and we’d like to play better football, but football is all about results. We’ve been winning, and won the group, so we’re happy,” he said.
“It always gives you a confidence boost, winning games and winning the group. In a way, it would actually be better for us if we’d finished second – then we’d have played Denmark (in Amsterdam), and we could have had a lot of Swedish supporters.
“Finishing first, we’re playing in Glasgow instead, where not many Swedes are allowed to go. People living in Sweden can’t travel abroad to the UK, so we’re hoping Swedes who are living in Scotland, England and nearby will come to the game to support us as much as possible.
“Of course, Newcastle is not too far from Glasgow, so we would be very happy if (Newcastle fans) came and watched us – and if they can, bring a yellow shirt as well!”.
Sweden have a real opportunity
Sweden will probably be favourites going into the game against Ukraine, given they topped their group unbeaten.
If they do get through, their side of the draw looks very kind and it’s a real opportunity for any of the teams on that side.
If England did play Sweden – without meaning to look too far ahead – it would be a tough, tight game, given their defensive records so far.
