Newcastle United defender Kieran Trippier has shared which manager he would pick to lead a five-a-side team consisting of the best players he’s ever played with.

Speaking on the Vibe With Five podcast with Rio Ferdinand, the Toon right-back selected a dream team of John Stones, Mousa Dembele, Koke, Harry Kane and Raheem Sterling.

However, to top it off, he was asked to select the best manager he’s had to lead the side.

He could choose from the likes of Eddie Howe, Mauricio Pochettino, Diego Simeone, Sean Dyche and Gareth Southgate.

“Simeone, I’d have,” Trippier said. “Closely followed by Eddie Howe.”

The England international played under Simeone at Atletico Madrid, where he spent two-and-a-half years before making the move to St James’ Park.

Trippier says he’d pick Simeone over Howe

With how things are going at the moment, Trippier certainly had a tight call to make.

With Newcastle enjoying an absolutely electric season in the Premier League with the side currently sitting just two points behind Manchester United in fourth, Howe has done an exceptional job since arriving on Tyneside.

The former Bournemouth manager has transformed the club both on and off the pitch, and there is a sense he could lead the Toon to major success.

Simeone’s side also sit fourth in the table, surprisingly behind Real Sociedad who are third – while the top two are the usual candidates.

The Argentine is held in such high pedigree, having won the La Liga title twice in an era dominated by Real Madrid and Barcelona.

Therefore, it’s not the least bit shocking Trippier went with him as the best manager he’s ever played under.

Hopefully Howe doesn’t take offence and decide to drop him at the weekend against the Cherries!
