Newcastle United defender Kieran Trippier has issued a heartwarming goodbye after Allan Saint-Maixmin’s Toon exit was confirmed on Sunday.

His £23million move to Al Ahli finally became official over the weekend. The news came more than a week after it looked like a deal had been finalised, but now Saint-Maximin is finally no longer a Newcastle United player.

The 26-year-old confirmed the news 24 hours before the club did, as he issued a lengthy and emotional goodbye to the club, the city, the players, the staff and the fans.

It was an incredibly touching message from Saint-Maximin, who has been adored during his fours years on Tyneside. He was a wonderful player on the pitch, and also played a significant role off it. He made a lasting impression in the North East and will certainly be missed.

Following the announcement of his departure, there have been plenty of goodbye messages from Newcastle players – one of which came from Kieran Trippier.

The 32-year-old had a good relationship with Maxi, and has now shared his thoughts on the winger leaving the Magpies for Al Ahli.

He wrote on his official Instagram account: “Was a pleasure to play with you and good luck in your next chapter.”

The pair always spoke very highly of each other, but they will no longer be teammates.

Saint-Maximin has taken his talents to the Saudi Pro League, despite everyone seemingly wanting him to stay at Newcastle. But for financial reasons, the club have had to move him on.

Given FFP restrictions, it was imperative that Newcastle sold some players to generate cash, and sadly for ASM he was our most saleable asset.

It is a disappointing end to an exciting Toon journey, but we will all join Trippier in wishing him luck for the next chapter of his career.

He is now an Al Ahli player, where he will form a potentially devastating front three alongside Roberto Firmino and Riyad Mahrez. It’s not a bad consolation for having to leave Newcastle United!
