Kieran Trippier posts his reaction to Newcastle’s thrilling draw with Luton yesterday

Kieran Trippier has posted his reaction to Newcastle United’s 4-4 draw against Luton Town yesterday.

It was a hectic game from start to finish and one that Newcastle will have felt like they could have and probably should have won, but left with just a point.

After the game, Trippier posted on Instagram to share his reaction to what he claimed was a ‘frustrating’ game, though he was happy on a personal level to grab a goal and assist.

Trippier gets back on Newcastle’s scoresheet

You’d have to go all the way back to the beginning of last season for when Trippier last scored a goal for Newcastle, a brilliant free kick to take a 3-1 lead against Manchester City.

The defender also took his assist tally to nine for the season, the second most in the Premier League, with a perfect cross into Sean Longstaff’s path for the opening goal.

Despite not finding himself on the scoresheet very often, the 33-year-old took his goal brilliantly after a trivela cross from Bruno Guimaraes that Trippier volleyed into the net to make it 4-3.

The England international claimed he was ‘happy’ to make an impact in the attacking end of things but admitted that the team were left frustrated that they weren’t able to get the three points after levelling with 20 minutes to play.

On Instagram, Trippier said: “Frustrating not to get 3 points but good character shown to come from 2 goals back. Happy to get an assist and goal today. Thanks everyone for the support”.

Newcastle are in a defensive slump

Newcastle have been firing on all cylinders when it comes to their attack despite having multiple key players out injured, but it is their defence that has let them down in the last month or so.

Martin Dubravka hasn’t exactly been at fault for many of the goals, though it does feel like Newcastle are really missing the dominant presence of the injured Nick Pope and can’t wait for his return, which is expected to be mid March.

If they are serious about wanting to be in and around the Champions League spots come the end of the season then Eddie Howe is going to have to do some serious work on the training pitch to fix these defensive problems.
