Arsenal legend Kevin Campbell has claimed that a move to the Emirates would be perfect for Ruben Neves despite interest from Newcastle United.

There has been lots of controversy surrounding Newcastle’s interest of Al Hilal midfielder Ruben Neves, but the club are still pushing to get the former Wolves man in January.

However, Kevin Campbell has now claimed that Neves would be more suited to playing for Arsenal and has urged the club to make a move in the next couple of months to beat Newcastle to his signature.

Neves would be ‘perfect’ for Arsenal

Arsenal, just like Newcastle, are very keen on bringing in a new midfielder in January given the injury to Thomas Partey who looks set to be out for the remainder of the year. Declan Rice has been brilliant since signing in the summer, but Mikel Arteta needs another top player to work alongside him if they are to mount a title challenge.

The £47m Neves has been presented as an option to fill in at the Emirates and it’s well known by now that the Portuguese international is looking for a return to the Premier League.

Campbell acknowledged that Newcastle have their ties to the Saudi Pro League club, but was keen to suggest that a move to Arsenal would be ideal for Neves.

Speaking on Monday Madness Arsenal Radio, Campbell said: “We’ve been linked with him for a number of seasons haven’t we? Considering his age and how good he is it’s one that makes perfect sense.

“He’s young enough, he’s good enough to play a lot of games in there for us. I think this is a good move. Newcastle will try to manoeuvre something, but this is a good move for a quality midfielder.”

Magpies could still sign Neves permanently

Newcastle were initially looking to bring Neves in on loan to cover for the suspended Sandro Tonali, but after Premier League clubs protested against this given the shared ownership of the clubs, the Magpies are having to explore other options.

While a loan deal may be temporarily banned, Newcastle still could sign the midfielder permanently for a fair price. It would be a great move and add some much needed depth in the middle of the park to help out the likes of Bruno Guimaraes and Sean Longstaff who are having to play every single minute at the moment.

Arsenal will provide tough competition for Newcastle, but Eddie Howe will be hoping that the club’s ties to Saudi Arabia will help to encourage the signing of Neves in January.

However, even a permanent transfer could be out of the question, with Al Hilal planning to keep Neves beyond January.
