Kenedy had two loan spells at Newcastle. One was sensational, but the other was a disaster.
At times, it was hard to believe it was the same player who returned to St James’ Park last season. Kenedy was a shadow of the player he was the season prior, where he played a key role in Newcastle’s survival.
But last season he struggled massively, scoring only once. It would’ve been two if he’d scored that penalty at Cardiff… Maybe that was the definitive moment of his second Newcastle stint.

The Brazilian returned to Chelsea in the summer, with hope of a second chance at Stamford Bridge amidst the transfer ban.
He was on the bench for the opening day defeat to Manchester United and the Super Cup loss to Liverpool, but failed to get on the pitch. That was as close as Kenedy got, as he was shipped out on loan once again.
The winger is now in Spain, joining Getafe until the end of the season.

So how is he getting on? Well, he’s made six appearances in La Liga, all of which have been off the bench. He’s yet to start a league game for Getafe, although he has managed to provide two assists. That’s more than he got in a Newcastle shirt last season.
It’s in the Europa League where he’s featured most, starting all three of Getafe’s group games, adding another assist to his tally.

It seems similar to his start at Newcastle. Kenedy was amazing when he first arrived, but when things started to go wrong, the wheels well and truly fell off.
Despite still being a Chelsea player, the 23-year-old surely has no future at Stamford Bridge. And it’s a shame he wasn’t good enough last season to earn a permanent move to St James’ Park. If only that penalty had gone in…
