Former Newcastle United star Keith Gillespie is looking forward to the Carabao Cup final on Sunday.
The winger spent three years at Newcastle between 1995 and 1998, being managed by Kevin Keegan and Kenny Dalglish.
Newcastle United are looking to end a 70-year wait for a domestic trophy when they play Liverpool at Wembley Stadium, they will be backed by over 30,000 Geordies in the capital.
Fans are flocking to London today to soak up the atmosphere ahead of the Magpies’ biggest game of the season, there is a real air of excitement amongst the fanbase that this could be the year a trophy comes back to Tyneside.
Toon legend Alan Shearer will be at the final having rejected several work opportunities to be at Wembley for the final. Shearer is excited to see Alexander Isak duel with Virgil van Dijk on Sunday after seeing them against each other at St James’ Park earlier this season.
Former Newcastle owner Amanda Staveley will join Shearer for the final, with it being revealed that she was gifted tickets by the club as an act of goodwill.
Now, Keith Gillespie has made a big statement about Newcastle fans which they will love.

In just three years at Newcastle, Gillespie racked up over 100 appearances, scoring 13 goals.
He has played for several well-known clubs in his career, including Manchester United and Blackburn Rovers, so he knows what a good crowd sounds like. What Newcastle fans will love is that he believes they better all of them in the debate for best fans.
Speaking to BBC Radio Newcastle ahead of the Carabao Cup final, Gillespie said: “It’ll be great to see them win a trophy.
“They deserve a trophy. In the last 20-30 years there’s been ups and downs, relegations, cup finals, but the fans always stick by you. They’re the best fans in the country by far.
“It will be a great occasion. Fingers crossed we can get over the line.”
Gillespie will go down as one of Newcastle’s most talented players. Even Shearer praised Gillespie for his flair and natural ability while they played together.

Newcastle fans need to back the players on Sunday
Every Newcastle fan in attendance is eager to avoid the same heartbreak they endured in the 2023 Carabao Cup final. The Magpies are so close to finally ending their infuriating wait or a trophy, but the fans need to play their part as well.
Eddie Howe has asked for Newcastle fans’ support, they spur the team on in games like this. Those at St James’ Park did exactly that for Newcastle’s win against Arsenal in the semi-finals in February.
