Jurgen Klopp shares how Newcastle should feel with Liverpool below them

Jurgen Klopp believes Newcastle United will suddenly be feeling the pressure a little bit more after Liverpool’s recent run of form.

While Newcastle have strengthened their top four credentials in recent weeks, Liverpool have enjoyed a mini revival.

The Reds beat West Ham 2-1 on Wednesday night, making it three wins on the bounce. Their win against the Hammers lifts them up to sixth, six points behind the Magpies with one more game played.

Eddie Howe’s side can restore the gap to nine points with a win against Everton, but a defeat at Goodison Park will once again have Newcastle looking over their shoulder. The pundits have had their say, with Paul Merson predicted a draw. However, Chris Sutton believes that the Magpies will take another giant step towards UCL qualification.

Liverpool and Aston Villa are the two clubs who have a chance of sneaking into the top four, and Klopp has now delivered a message to the sides above him in the race to qualify for the Champions League.

Jurgen Klopp sends top four message to Newcastle

Following the win over West Ham, Klopp spoke to the Reds’ official website. He was asked how the teams above Liverpool will feel with his side chasing them down.

“A bit more under pressure than three weeks ago,” he said.

“But the teams above us are not in those positions for fun. They deserve to be there, they play a good season – a better season than us. But it’s not over and we will try.

“But we don’t think about chasing them, we think about finding ourselves and playing our best possible football.”

All Eddie Howe can do is keep winning

Liverpool are certainly the team to watch for Newcastle. They feel like the most likely side to threaten our place in next season’s Champions League.

Klopp is right, as his team have certainly done all they can to apply some pressure in recent weeks. But all Howe can focus on is winning.

Top four is still in our hands. We are the hunted rather than the hunters. We have put ourselves in a brilliant position with seven games to go, controlling our destiny during a remarkable season.

There is certainly pressure, but that comes with the territory. It is something Newcastle will need to get used to as they look to compete in Europe and challenge for honours.

But it is a pressure that the Magpies will hopefully rise to, starting against Everton tonight.
