Journalist clears up Newcastle’s Dubai trip after ASM and Bruno confusion

While some of Newcastle United’s players are representing their countries, the rest of Eddie Howe’s squad are off the Dubai.

The Newcastle boss is taking his team to the Middle East for another warm weather training camp, which is becoming a regular occurrence.

The Magpies have been to Saudi Arabia twice since the change of ownership, and visited Riyadh during the World Cup where they took on Al Hilal in a friendly.

Now Newcastle are off to the United Arab Emirates, making the same trip that they made midway through last season.

Confusion over where some of Newcastle’s players are

There has been some confusion surrounding the club’s trip to Dubai. It was reported that the team immediately travelled there following the Friday night win over Nottingham Forest.

However, social media activity and reports would suggest otherwise. Bruno Guimaraes and Joelinton have been very active on Instagram over the past few days, enjoying time with their family – clearly not in Dubai. Bruno has been in the Maldives with his partner, and it has looked absolutely glorious.

As for Allan Saint-Maximin, Newcastle World have reported that he is already in Dubai, but is not with his teammates.

It has led to some confusion over when the club’s training camp kicks off, and now the Athletic’s Chris Waugh has provided more information.

Chris Waugh explains why some Newcastle players are not in Dubai right now

Speaking on the latest episode of Pod On The Tyne, Waugh has explained why not every Toon player is in Dubai at the moment.

“Well some of them are already over there,” Waugh said.

“I think they were given a few days off, so they’ve jetted various different places beforehand. Some of them are already in Dubai, but I think it’s going to be similar to the trip they had this time last year.”

The reporter then added the trip to Dubai will not be as intense as previous trips away, with a focus on player recuperation.

Waugh said: “There’s an acceptance that since the World Cup, certainly for those players who were at the World Cup, that they haven’t really had a break.”

Rest and recovery ahead of Manchester United game

With the training camp yet to begin, that explains why Bruno has been able to jet off to the Maldives. The players have been given time off, but some have chosen to simply spend it in Dubai.

When the training camp does kick off, it will serve as an important period for Newcastle ahead of a busy end to the season.

As Waugh says, there has not been a lot of rest for players – especially those who competed at the World Cup in Qatar. This break will be a great chance to recuperate, as well as prepare for a huge game against Manchester United.

The Magpies return to Premier League action on April 2nd when they take on Man United at St James’ Park. It will be a huge game in the race for Champions League qualification.
