Newcastle United winger Jacob Murphy has enjoyed a great season.
The 26-year-old has really got his head down this term, and been one of the Magpies’ better players in a season of struggle.
Murphy has never complained, and shown heart and fight every time he has taken to the field – the same of which cannot be said for some others.
And it seems Murphy’s renaissance at St. James’ Park has not gone unnoticed.
According to journalist Pete O’Rourke, Murphy is now attracting attention from Rangers, Southampton and Watford.
Scottish Premiership champions Rangers were linked with a move for Murphy last October (Chronicle).
The three teams will be watching the situation with Murphy very closely over the next couple of months.
As things currently stand, the player is out of contract this summer (via Transfermarkt) and will leave as a free agent.
Many fans have been clamouring for him to be handed a new deal for all his hard work this season.
But it may well be that £25,000-a-week star Murphy (Spotrac) wishes to seek pastures new, and it appears he isn’t short of suitors.
Newcastle must make tracks on new contract offer now
It’s crystal clear Murphy is a player Newcastle need to be keeping hold of.
The versatile Englishman has proven his worth this season and absolutely deserves fresh terms.
It comes as little surprise that a number of teams are reportedly waiting in the wings to snap him up.
It’s paramount that Newcastle get to work now on putting a new contract offer to the star – the longer it’s left, the more likely it is he won’t feel valued.
