Newcastle’s misfit centre-forward, Joselu, looks set to end his nightmare stint on Tyneside with a move back to Spain with La Liga side Alaves.

Reports in Spain claim “it is a matter of time” until the 29-year-old joins the Basque club.

The Chronicle reported last week that Joselu had offers to leave St James’ Park, but much depended on what was happening with the “new direction” coming to the club.

Many interpreted his comments as confirmation that the takeover talk sweeping the region is genuine.

Spanish publication, Mundo Deportivo, claim the forward will leave Newcastle due to his “lack of opportunities” and will hope for more first team football at the Spanish club.

There seems to be something of a revolution at Alaves, with newly appointed manager Asier Garitano having already signed former Arsenal and West Ham forward Lucas Perez and Swedish forward John Guidetti.

Always gave his all, but just was not good enough

Newcastle fans could never fault Joselu for effort, when he played. But the plain truth of the matter is that he was simply not good enough, and not clinical enough in front of goal.

His impending departure, however, along with no permanent deal in place for current player of the season, Salomon Rondon, means Newcastle would currently have no senior centre-forward on their books.

With still no sign of an end to the Rafa Benitez saga, it remains how long it will be until any signings are brought in. But with Newcastle already appearing to fall behind their rivals in the transfer market, it is a worrying sign for Magpies fans.
