Newcastle United failed to record their first win of 2021/22 yesterday, despite having plenty of chances.

The Magpies were left to rue their wastefulness after Sean Longstaff opened the scoring in the first-half.

Ben Foster thwarted a number of Newcastle players in the second-half.

Watford would then get back on level terms through Ismaila Sarr, who headed in his fourth of the season.

One got the feeling that a good chance would come for Newcastle to retake the lead.

It had been a promising display, and the Magpies had been looking creative.

Well that chance did indeed come, and it was an absolutely golden one.

Jacob Murphy, on as a substitute for Miguel Almiron, was sent through on goal by Allan Saint-Maximin with just a few minutes remaining in the game.

The 26-year-old scampered away from Oghenekaro Etebo and just needed a composed finish.

To the horror of every Toon fan, Murphy attempted to dink the ball over Foster and scuffed his effort.

A clip is doing the rounds on social media of former Magpies defender John Anderson commentating on the miss.

He spoke for every Newcastle fan as he shouted ‘Just put it in the net!’.

On social media, fans have been giving their reactions to the commentary, which is hilarious until you remember the reason for it.
