Joey Barton delivers instant reaction on Twitter after seeing Newcastle beat PSG

Former Newcastle United midfielder Joey Barton was loving life tonight as his old club battered Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League.

Since leaving Newcastle Joey Barton has always held on the affinity he has for the club and tonight he was posting on social media like a true fan.

Not many people saw a 4-1 win coming for the Magpies tonight but at half time, Joey Barton had a good feeling, posting: “PSG are playing uphill 2nd half. (Metaphorically and proverbially) @NUFC downhill to the Gallowgate. The Toon might give these a right pumping here, especially if these front players for PSG don’t track back.”

Joey Barton was clearly happy to see Elliot Anderson on the pitch

Barton celebrated the goals as they went in and of course had something to say when Elliot Anderson came on the pitch.

Anderson of course played under Joey Barton at Bristol Rovers where he earned the moniker ‘Geordie Maradona’.

Joey posted: “Here’s @elljanderson now. Geordie Maradona against @KMbappe. Go on lad”.

Barton still clearly has love for Newcastle

Then at full time Barton reposted the official Newcastle twitter’s post acknowledging Fabian Schar‘s blistering strike that made the scoreline 4-1 and added: “What a night! Couldn’t have gone any better for The Toon Army. Buzzing to see those CL nights back at St James’”

I love seeing Barton tweeting about the Toon with such love. He was a player that you hate when he’s not on your team but love him when he is, and he had some outstanding moments in a black and white shirt and it’s clear that those times have stuck with him.

I’m still in shock after what’s happened and it takes posts like this to help the reality sink in.
