Newcastle United social media is a wonderful place after a win with all the players posting messages to each other full of praise and yesterday Joe Willock was quick to praise Alexander Isak.

After Newcastle’s 6-1 win over Tottenham yesterday, social media belonged to the Magpies. With every single Newcastle player a man of the match contender there was no room to be humble as the players bigged each other up on Instagram.

Isak posted an image of his celebration with the caption “Pow Pow” and among the replies were several of his team mates pinging up supportive messages and emojis but the one that stands out is the one from Joe Willock.

‘I swear’

Bear in mind that Willock’s assist for Isak’s first was one of the best passes we’ve ever seen at St James’ Park, it was Willock who had the love for his striker saying: Your[sic] the man I swear”.

Isak really is the man. He’s now scored seven goals in the last seven games, just like a certain Joe Willock did during his loan spell before his permanent move from Arsenal. That’s 10 goals in 15 Premier League outings which is a phenomenal return.

I said a while ago that I’d back Isak to be in with a shout for the Golden Boot next season were it not for Erling Haaland and that statement was met with some very funny looks. Well, am I right or am I right?

Isak can push Haaland for the Golden Boot next year

Isak sits behind only the ‘Man City Cyborg’ in the minutes per goal metric this season and it just begs the question – how many goals would he have were it not for that long injury lay off?

Thankfully, that injury seems to have been a one-off thing as before that his availability was always solid so we should get a full season out of him next year which is exciting stuff.

Meanwhile, Joe Willock, playing passes like that one for Isak’s goal and continuing to improve game by game must be creeping into Gareth Southgate‘s thoughts for an England call up now.
