The Joe Willock of old is very much back for Newcastle United.

The 25-year-old is finally enjoying a run in the Newcastle United starting XI, having been in and out of the side after recovering from a lengthy injury problem.

But Joe Willock has started Newcastle’s previous three games, and it has resulted in three consecutive wins.

Eddie Howe has found his best Newcastle midfield, with Willock joining Sean Longstaff and Bruno Guimaraes in the middle of the park. They are giving Howe the balance he has been craving, while Willock is combining excellently with Joelinton again.

It is fantastic to see Willock playing so well, after the midfielder endured a difficult start to the campaign.

But Willock feels like he is getting back to his best, and has told the official Newcastle United website that he is ready to push on even further.

“I feel good,” he said.

“I feel like I’m getting back to my best. I feel like I’m playing well, trying to affect games.

“I’m going to keep pushing on. Hopefully I can continue pushing and start scoring goals, assisting goals on a regular basis.

“The Premier League is so hard to get back into and get started at your best again. It’s good to get my minutes up and get my feet back under the table.”

Willock is now shining after disappointing start to the season

Before a ball had been kicked, Willock was being described as ‘like a new signing’, given the fact he basically missed all of last season due to injury.

The hope was that Willock would help transform the Newcastle United midfield, but that has only just started to happen.

Early in the season, Willock suffered another injury, and there were fears that he was going to be out for a long time yet again. Fortunately, he only missed one game.

However, what followed was a very underwhelming run of form. In fact, it was even reported by the Athletic that Newcastle staff were disappointed with Willock’s performances.

So much was expected of Willock, which made his poor run of form all the more frustrating.

But now he is getting back to his best, and playing at a level we know he is capable of. Willock is an outstanding player, and someone who offers something completely different to the rest of Newcastle’s midfielders.

We are seeing that once again now, and Willock will hope to continue his run in the starting XI after the international break. He feels likely to start for a fourth game in a row on November 25th, when the Magpies face West Ham United at St James’ Park.

But there is pressure on him to keep performing, with Sandro Tonali waiting in the wings.

That is why Willock knows he needs to continue playing well, with the former Arsenal man keen to add goals and assists to his game. So far this season, Willock has one goal and one assist in all competitions.
