Newcastle United sent Joe White out on loan on transfer deadline day.
With first-team minutes likely to be extremely limited and potentially even non-existent this season for Joe White, the decision was made to send him out on loan.
The Newcastle United midfielder signed a new deal at St James’ Park before departing, with White’s previous deal due to expire in 2025.
Now his value has been protected, and White is plying his trade in League Two with MK Dons.
It is a league he knows well, having played for Hartlepool and Crewe Alexandra in the fourth tier of English football.

Problem emerges at MK Dons for Joe White
This is White’s third loan spell at a League Two club, and his fourth loan spell away from Newcastle United.
The 21-year-old has made two appearances for MK Dons so far, both of which ended in defeat.
And there has now been a major change at the Dons – one that could have an impact on White’s prospects of playing regularly.
It has been announced that Mike Williamson has left his position as MK Dons manager to take charge of Carlisle United.
The former Newcastle United defender has swapped Buckinghamshire for Cumbria, where he will hope to implement his expansive brand of passing football.
And that could be a problem for White, as Williamson was very complimentary about the midfielder when he arrived at Stadium MK.
“Joe is a technically gifted player who can operate in between the lines,” he told MK Dons’ official website.
“He’s a creative footballer who will naturally influence games with his ability.
“We’re extremely grateful to Newcastle United for trusting us with one of their most exciting talents this season.
“I’m really looking forward to working with him.”
Williamson showed his gratitude to his former club, while he also expressed his delight at getting the chance to work with White and help his development.
Now they are no longer working together, and it will be interesting to see who MK Dons appoint as his replacement. The hope is that whoever comes in is a fan of White’s ability, and plays a brand of football that suits him.
It is difficult to envision White getting a chance at Newcastle United
While it might work out just fine, seeing Williamson depart is an early blow to White’s loan spell at MK Dons.
And it comes at a time when it is difficult to envision how he is going to become a first-team regular at St James’ Park.
White was part of the Newcastle first-team during the second half of last season, with Eddie Howe opting to keep him on Tyneside and blocking a loan return to Crewe.
During that period, White made four Premier League appearances, all of which came as a substitute.
However, those appearances came when Joelinton, Joe Willock and Sandro Tonali were all unavailable. White’s involvement came out of necessity, with Howe desperately short of midfield options.
The hope will be that White is a better player when he returns to Newcastle United. However, it is hard to imagine him being good enough for a club that will hopefully be back in Europe by the time his latest loan spell in League Two has come to an end.
