Alexander Isak scored twice in Newcastle United’s opening game of the season against Aston Villa catching the eye of Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink.

Newcastle‘s £63million record signing Alexander Isak missed a lot of football last season but when he returned his goalscoring prowess was on display for all to see.

Now with hopefully a full season ahead of him, he’s got off to the perfect start for Newcastle by scoring two goals in the first game, matching the exploits of Erling Haaland who I believe will be his biggest threat to the Golden Boot this season.

Isak scored a sublime chipped effort for Newcastle’s third of the night

Isak’s first goal against Aston Villa was a straight forward tap in but his second was a thing of beauty. Pressuring Ezri Konsa into making a mistake inside his own box, Isak gratefully took the ball and dinked the oncoming Emi Martinez. It was a beautifully instinctive finish from the Swedish sensation.

It was the goal that had Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink gushing in his post-match analysis for Sky Sports as he raved about Isak saying: “I like him from day one, I always said he was a very good striker.”

“Technically: very good, plays very good with his back to the goal but also when he faces the goal it’s very natural for him. Nothing looks out of place. How he took his second goal you can’t teach a striker that, you have that.

Hasselbaink thinks Isak has everything the modern striker needs

“He’s only going to get better and better and stronger and stronger,” said Hasselbaink. “He’s a pleasure to watch. There are not of strikers at the moment, he is one that is an out-and-out striker.”

Alexander Isak is definitely the real deal. We got a glimpse of it last season, but this year I think we’re going to see exactly what he’s capable of and I for one can’t wait to go along for that ride.
