Jermaine Jenas has now shared what he and Peter Crouch noticed about Newcastle United supporters during their 3-1 win over Aston Villa last night.

Newcastle fans had a quick turnaround after an FA Cup tie away to Fulham on Saturday where there were no trains home, and yet the supporters travelled in great spirits to both games.

Both Jenas and Crouch were on punditry for the game for TNT Sports and claimed that the fans, who were sat right behind them, were ‘electric’ all game cheering the team on.

Jenas says Newcastle fans ‘just didn’t stop’

It’s been a long time since the Newcastle faithful had something to shout about at an away game in the Premier League, you’d have to go all the way back to September for their last win against Sheffield United.

In fact, coming into the game it was only the Blades who had a worse record away from home in the league than the Magpies who were second bottom in that particular category.

But despite that, the fans were in great voice all night and were rewarded with a huge three points thanks to Fabian Schar’s first-half brace and an own goal forced by Jacob Murphy to wrap it up.

Jenas was very impressed with the Newcastle fans all night who thoroughly deserved the victory having stuck by the team in what’s been a very frustrating period over the last two months.

After the game, Jenas said: “Me and Crouchy sat just below the away fans today and they just didn’t stop. They were electric.”

Newcastle could be back to their best

Of course Newcastle would have loved to have been in the Champions League knockout rounds have had a Carabao Cup semi-final to compete in earlier this month, but exiting those competitions may be a blessing in disguise.

It’s been clear since the beginning of the season that this team don’t quite have the depth to compete on four fronts just yet, which is surely something they will address in the summer.

Despite this season’s earlier disappointments, Newcastle will return to playing just one game a week and will be able to fully rest and recover for their upcoming games which has been a huge problem this season as Eddie Howe previously revealed.

The team hadn’t been training properly during that intense spell in December an January, so they will now be looking to recapture last year’s impressive form that got them European status in the first place.
