It’d be fair to say Newcastle United’s draw at Leeds on Saturday lunchtime was eventful.
Three penalties and a deflection meant the points were shared at Elland Road as both Newcastle and the hosts fought back from trailing.
Callum Wilson twice scored from the spot to give Eddie Howe’s side the lead after Luke Ayling had opened the scoring before Kieran Trippier’s head met Rasmus Kristensen’s shot to leave two points on the table in Yorkshire.

Wilson’s two penalties took his haul up to 17 in the Premier League season but the England international should arguably have had another chance from 12 yards.
Jermaine Jenas believes Newcastle were denied another penalty
Towards the end of the first-half, Wilson appeared to have been bundled over by Leeds midfielder Weston McKennie.
Referee Simon Hooper, however, waved the appeals away.
Reacting to the event, former Magpies midfielder Jermaine Jenas told BT Sport (via the Daily Mail) at half-time: ”This is reckless from McKennie, it’s really clumsy.
“I think he’s a lucky boy to get away with that one.”
Newcastle simply did not create enough
Yes, they scored twice but it was not a particularly productive afternoon for Howe’s frontline.
Fabian Schar forced Joel Robles into a smart save with a volley late on and Allan Saint-Maximin had a goal ruled out for offside but there was little in the way of clear cut openings.

To have had to rely on penalties to get a point, albeit a fairly unlucky one given the deflection off of Trippier, against a team battling relegation with one of the worst defensive records in the league was hardly ideal.
While Wilson was unlucky to have been denied that particular spot-kick, it doesn’t really tell the whole story about Newcastle’s attacking performance.
They huffed and puffed but needed far more.
