This weekend could prove to be pivotal in Newcastle’s fight against relegation.
While Steve Bruce’s side failed to win yet again on Friday night, Brighton managed to secure a big three points on Sunday.
Thanks to a tactical tweak by Graham Potter, the Seagulls were able to triumph 2-1 against an out-of-form Southampton side.

The win lifts Brighton above us in the table on 29 points. Fortunately, Fulham were powerless against a rampant Manchester City side on Saturday night.
However, they face Leeds before our huge game against Brighton, meaning we could start that fixture in the bottom three.
This run of games looked like it was going to be huge in the fight for survival. That has proven to be the case, with Newcastle unable to win against Wolves, West Brom and Aston Villa.
Fail to win next week against Brighton, and a desperate situation for the Magpies could be beyond repair.
Speaking on Match of the Day 2, Jermaine Jenas discussed the relegation battle, and his comments will be a real worry for Toon fans.

Jenas’ comments look damning for Newcastle’s survival hopes
“To get those three points going into the game against Newcastle, at this period of the season, we’re always talking about momentum and feel and positivity and energy,” he said.
“And right now, Brighton are on cloud nine and Fulham have a little bit of energy in their system as well. And Newcastle, I suppose, is going the other way.”
Momentum is a huge factor right now. Fulham had momentum until their loss to Man City, while Brighton will be full of confidence going into Saturday’s game.
As for Newcastle, the club hasn’t had momentum all season. There’s a lack of confidence at St James’ Park right now, which sees them edging closer to the relegation zone.

Jenas has got it wrong about Newcastle in the past. But when he says we’re going the other way compared to Brighton and Fulham, he’s bang on.
If only we had seen this coming…oh wait, we did. Instead, it was the pundits who cheered Bruce on as he continued to drag the club towards the bottom.
Newcastle are going the other way to Fulham and Brighton, and that’s because we have a poor manager who never should have got the job in the first place.
