Newcastle United are in Premier League action against Burnley today.

The Magpies have the chance to open up a bigger gap over Fulham in the table, with the Cottagers having lost to Wolverhampton Wanderers on Friday night.

At the moment it’s three points, and the Clarets represent a good chance of a point or three for Steve Bruce’s side.

Confidence should be higher following the result against Tottenham Hotspur.

That said Burnley have the potential to be a nuisance and do have some good players.

When discussing the game yesterday on Gillette Soccer Saturday, Burnley striker Chris Wood came up, with Jeff Stelling suggesting he’s someone who the Newcastle fans would really like.

He said (via Shields Gazette): “I can’t help but think, if you look at the other side this weekend, Chris Wood cost £15 million.

“He’s got 41 in 119 for Burnley.

“Newcastle fans would absolutely adore a centre-forward like Chris Wood, wouldn’t they?”

New Zealand international Wood joined Sean Dyche’s team back in the summer of 2017 from Leeds United for £15 million as Stelling says (BBC Sport).

He’s in-form right now, having scored three goals in his last three games.

Wood someone to look at?

He probably isn’t the most glamorous name, but Wood has proven he can score goals at both Championship and Premier League level.

Newcastle look set to be losing Andy Carroll at the end of the season when his contract expires, and Wood could be a way to upgrade on the 32-year-old.

The Clarets may seek to try and sell this summer since he’ll have two years on his contract and is aged 29, and Newcastle could do worse – potentially, he’d be a nice complement to Callum Wilson in attack.
