TalkSPORT pundit and former Chelsea player Jason Cundy has tipped Newcastle United to win the Premier League title before another Manchester United. Speaking on ‘The Sports Bar‘ last night with Andy Goldstein, Cundy thinks the Magpies will win the Premier League before the Red Devils.

Goldstein asked who would win the league next, Newcastle or Manchester United.

Cundy responded: “I’d probably go Newcastle.”

The ex-Chelsea player gave examples of the success of clubs like Chelsea and Manchester City. He believes the models of those two clubs is,”about glory, it’s not worrying about the pound notes.”

Newcastle had a successful January window, but survival will determine the outcome next summer

The Magpies were able to bring in five new players during the January transfer window. They were Kieran Trippier, Chris Wood, Bruno Guimaraes, Dan Burn and Matt Targett on loan.

2022 has been a better year already for Newcastle who has won their last three games. Trippier, Targett and Burn have been key to those nine points being picked up.

The mood around the Toon’s survival is much more positive now after much better results. Survival is essential if they are to have a successful window in the summer.

The riches and the opportunity to play Premier League football will entice a lot of quality players. However, this won’t be the case should they be relegated to the Championship.

Additionally, the fact a top player in Trippier made the move to Tyneside will help in their attraction of top players. If the England international plays for them, they will see it as a good move for their career.

It’s certainly a bold claim from Cundy.

Manchester United have had a rough season. But they certainly have the tools to challenge for the league title. For Newcastle, it’s still early days as they look to rebuild and become a force in football again.

There’s no doubt the future looks promising for the Magpies. But for now, at least they must focus on surviving this season in the Premier League.
