Newcastle United have enjoyed a remarkable 2022, and co-owner Jamie Reuben is keen to see the club continue to improve in two departments.

The first-team have been sensational this year. It started with the club sitting in the relegation zone, but Eddie Howe and his staff helped guide the club to safety. Then we have kicked on in a massive way this season, and currently sit third in the Premier League.

That is a testament to the work of the manager and his coaching staff. It is a testament to the players who have done brilliantly, many of which are playing better than they ever have done before. And it is a testament to the recruitment team, with every signing coming in and making a difference.

So much has gone right for the Magpies, but there is still room for improvement as the owners look to take Newcastle to the top.

That is what Reuben wants, and he is excited about helping the club’s academy and women’s team grow in the future.

Reuben’s two ways Newcastle can improve

The Toon director has been speaking to the Chronicle, and addressed what he is looking forward to in the future with regards to Newcastle.

“Of course, as a football fan, I am really looking forward to seeing how NUFC press on after the World Cup” he said.

“I’m excited to continue our work in developing women’s football at the club, as well as the academy, two parts of NUFC’s future that I’m hugely passionate about.”

Newcastle United becoming a more cohesive club

As the first-team gets better, the owners can then start to focus on improving the club as a whole. Of course, at the start of the year the only goal was to survive. That had to be everyone’s priority.

But now the Magpies are in a better place, and can focus more attention on other departments.

Developing the academy can go hand in hand with the first-team. Fans want to see youngsters rising through the ranks, and they need to be in an environment that facilitates that.

It is an area of the club that is certainly on the up, with investment into fresh faces galvanizing something that was neglected under Mike Ashley.

Sporting Director Dan Ashworth is a vital part of that development, overseeing the whole club and ensuring each department is fit for purpose.

The same goes for the women’s team, who enjoyed their best year ever in 2022. They are now fully under the same ownership as of August, and have played twice at St James’ Park this year.

The owners have shown a keen interest in the women’s team, at a time where popularity is at an all-time high following the success of the Lionesses last summer.

Newcastle are growing as a club, and that stretches beyond the 11 players who start in the Premier League each and every week. And Reuben is excited to see that development continue heading into 2023.
